A backup routine starts working when you test a restore
Having a copy is not the same as being able to recover. Check the scope, location and recovery steps, then restore a small sample.

Separate sync from recovery
A sync service may copy accidental deletion as readily as a useful edit. Check whether version history exists, how long it is retained and what permissions are required to recover files.
Document the recovery route
Write down the device, account and location needed for recovery. Keep instructions somewhere accessible if the main computer is unavailable. Protect sensitive material while making authorised recovery possible.
Run a small rehearsal
Recover several files from different dates into a temporary folder and open them. Record missing items and the time required. Do not overwrite live data during the rehearsal.
Try one small change
Choose one idea that fits your situation, try it on a limited scale and record what you learn. A useful practice should be easy to review and adjust. Share your experience in the comments, including the context and any limitations.
